What's Changing in Ohio Education
There are several initiatives impacting Ohio schools over the next few years. Below there is a link to several one-page handouts that explain some of the big issues along with a timeline of key implementation dates.
New Learning Standards/Common Core
Tuslaw is preparing to fully implement new College and Career Ready education standards by the 2014-2015 school year.
Tuslaw is participating in the 2014-2015 Online Field Tests. Ohio is developing computer-based state tests for the 2014-2015 school year in math, English language arts, science and social studies. There are two platforms for the new tests. Pearson is developing the math and English language arts tests. AIR is developing the social studies and science tests. While both platforms are similar in many ways, there are differences. For more information please click the link below.
Third Grade Reading Guarantee
On Monday, June 25, 2012 Governor Kasich signed Senate Bill 316. This bill's main topic was Third Grade Reading Guarantee. The Third Grade Reading Guarantee gives greater emphasis to reading instruction and intervention in the early grades. All schools in Ohio are required to diagnose all students in grades kindergarten through three, then create individualized reading improvement and monitoring plans and provide intensive reading interventions to the students who need extra support. Please read the following documents to learn more about the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
